The 6-Week Essay Writing Course for Preteens and Teens
This course includes everything needed to write an epic essay,
from start to finish, through the following lessons:
Week 1 - How to compose a masterful thesis statement, the backbone of any great essay.
Week 2 - Introducing your topic: how to set the stage for a clear and cohesive message.
Week 3 - Outlining the body of an essay: how to skillfully lay out your topic for maximum impact.
Week 4 - How to present the four types of proof that allow your essay to carry weight with an audience.
Week 5 - Smooth transitions between topics and paragraphs within an essay: how to summarize and anticipate those topics effectively.
Week 6 - Conclude your essay powerfully with some tips and tricks for creating an elegant finishing paragraph.

Meet Savannah Hepburn Penny! She earned her BA in English Literature with a focus on Creative Writing from the University of Calgary in 2004. Since then, Savannah has dedicated herself to teaching writing to homeschooled children in a variety of settings—including her own home, where she currently homeschools her six kids. She’s passionate about helping kids and teens discover their unique voice, nurturing their confidence, and inspiring a lifelong love of great literature and big ideas. Can the video lessons be viewed at any time?
Indeed! The video lessons are all pre-recorded. They are sent to your email each Monday morning, to be viewed at a time that's convenient for you.
How much time should my child expect to spend on this course?
The videos are 25-30 minutes long, and most weekly assignments take about 30 minutes or less. But in Week 4, the research week, the homework time depends on how much research your child does. It could take up to 2 hours that week. Usually, you can expect to spend less than 1 hour each week on both the video and the assignment, except for Week 4.
Will this course be a good fit for my child?
The 6-week Essay Writing Course is designed to help every student, no matter their age, skill level, or background, build the skills needed to write a great essay. Whether you’re a beginner or already comfortable with writing, you’ll find useful tips and techniques that fit your needs. How much you improve depends on the effort you put in, but everyone who takes the course will gain valuable guidance to boost their writing. This course offers something helpful for everyone!
