Looking for the perfect book?

So many parents ask me for book recommendations when we get close to Christmastime each year. This year, I am highlighting one of the very best book series our family has ever enjoyed. We read these books again and again. They are the perfect books for children who are making that transition from picture books to chapter books.

Thornton Burgess' books have a unique way of bringing families together during story time. These stories, like “The Adventures of Happy Jack” or “Old Mother West Wind,” contain gentle humor and sweet, memorable animal friends. They spark conversations about kindness, trust, and even how we treat each other in our own homes. Each chapter is a little story in itself, and nestled in these chapters hide little nuggets of human wisdom, often in the form of short little poems that are easy to memorize and recite.

I suspect these will soon be your family's favourite book series, too! In our home, we have two versions of the Burgess books: one set is very old, having belonged to my grandmother as a child.
